Jason, Mary, and their dog Lexi (Kenosha, WI)
Hi Nancy, I thought you might enjoy a good story. 2010 was a tough year for us in regards to friends. We lost both our Rottie (Xena) and our Golden Retriever (Morgan) within a few months of each other. Both were older, lived great lives and were pillars of our families memories and happiness. Understandably, we were convinced a long-break from any new animals was probably the best course for the next year. It wasn't long however, that we found ourselves looking up "Rottweilers" on Google just to look at the pictures and wonder what a new pup might be like. That turned into looking at breeders and kidding each other about getting a new puppy. One Sunday night, after a particularly long internet search, my wife Mary put her computer on my lap and showed me pictures of Schomberg Puppies. Of course, they all looked good to me! I read over your website and kinda chuckled to myself the thought of a "Farm-Raised Rottweiler". I grew up a farm kid and couldn't think of a better way to bring up a Rottie. Mary grabbed her phone and said she was calling the Schombergs, I told her not to bother people on a Sunday, but it was too late. I was really surprised that you answered the phone Nancy, but I took that as a sign. I'll never forget the smile on my wife's face as she talked to you about the litter of puppies you had and that there were a bunch of little girls still left. I think we spoke a few days later and I was really impressed by how you loved the breed itself and that was your motivation behind raising Rotties. It was obvious! So, our family set out on a little adventure to Lacrosse on Dec 3rd. By the time we got there, from Kenosha, it was snowing so hard we could hardly see and basically slipped and slid into our hotel. As I sat in the pool, with my kids, that night I kept thinking to myself, "I got Xena in a blizzard back in '00, this is another good sign". The next morning was perfect and sunny as we trekked to your farm. We were so excited that we could all feel the energy in the car when we pulled up! When you opened the barn door and we could finally see the puppies we were in Heaven! The were all so beautiful! How could we possibly pick just one when each one was perfect. It was so nice to see all those little pups rolling around in the hay, frolicking all over each other. They looked so happy! I'm glad you suggested we pick a pup by eliminating the ones we didn't want, that made a hard decision a little easier. It was obvious we picked our new pup as much as she picked us. I'll never forget, she was the one with the sleekest coat and already had the wavy fur instead of just fuzz. She was beautiful! We loved how playful and friendly she was. You mentioned she was pretty strong-willed already and we knew that was perfect for us. We enjoyed the coffee and playing with Bart (the house Rott) while we got the papers in order. Our drive home was hard! I wanted to play with our new little girl so much, but had to focus on driving! We threw some names around back and forth and settled on Lexington Kentucky Derby (Lexi) by the time we were a few hours away. People still get a laugh out of her name and we get many compliments. Since then, she has proven to be the perfect dog we chose that day on your farm. She is so smart that potty training was instant, just like anything else we taught her. She's been through obedience schools and has made friends (and Rottweiler fans) wherever she goes. She's been my constant shadow and been a best friend to us all. It's so apparent that her upbringing had everything to do with this. From great parents (Argus and Cinder), to her days romping in the barn as a pup, you set us up with a great friend. Words can't describe what she means to us, but where we go, she goes. I look forward to taking her out walking and running each day, she's quite the athlete. Every night, you will find Lexi snuggled in with one of us, keeping us warm and safe. She's beautiful and perfect, thanks for the wonderful things you are doing with Rottweilers.
